Biography:

Dimitrios Fletouris was born in Athens, Greece, in 1959. He received the degree in Veterinary Medicine and the Ph.D. degree in Milk Hygiene and Technology from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1983 and 1990, respectively. From 1992 to 1999 D. Fletouris was a lecturer, from 1999 to 2007 an assistant professor, whereas from 2007 to 2015 he was an associate professor in the Laboratory of Milk Hygiene and Technology, School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Presently, he is a professor in the same Laboratory. Member of the IDF Standing Committee on Residues and Chemical Contaminants since 2000. Co-editor and co-author of three books, and author or co-author of five book chapters and more than 60 research articles in leading scientific journals. His research activities focus mainly on the development of methods for the determination of veterinary drug residues in edible animal products. Also, his research interests cover a broad spectrum of instrumental techniques on the quality control of foods pertaining to vitamins, lipids, amino acids, proteins and other food constituents. Furthermore, he has been involved in research related to biodegradation of veterinary drugs by probiotic and lactic acid bacteria, as well as on the development of novel and functional foods using probiotic microorganisms and/or herbs and their extracts.
