Biography:

Ian Michael completed a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. His thesis investigated the area of Electronic/Internet Marketing, and was titled “Consumer Behavior in a Computer Mediated Environment – Implications for Marketers”. 

Ian also has an MBA, and his Masters research thesis was in tourism marketing/management/economics and was titled “The Economic Impact of Overseas Students on Tourism in Victoria - Australia”.

Ian has around eighteen years of industrial experience in India and Australia where he held senior positions in the Travel & Tourism, Banking & Finance, Hospitality, Advertising, Pharmaceutical, and Transportation & Logistics sectors. 

Ian is a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute (FAMI), and a Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM). He has number of refereed articles published in leading journals. He has presented at leading conferences around the world in Tourism and Marketing. His research was instrumental in one of Tourism Victoria’s strategic marketing plan.  

Ian has edited three case study books and contributed as an author to cases in the books specific to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) region, they are titled “Actions & Insights” and published in 2010, 2012 & 2103. In these books, he has co-authored cases like: (1) Abraaj Capital Limited: Celebration of Entrepreneurship, (2) Haier: Beat the Heat and (3) Etihad: Contributing to the UAE vision through Emiratisation, (4) Pepsico and (5) GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft.  

Ian is often invited as an industry keynote speaker; he has contributed as an expert on Dubai’s leading radio station 103.8 Dubai Eye. He is often interviewed and quoted in the media in Dubai and the region, in the past he was interviewed by BBC and CNBC. He is presently working on three research projects funded by the UAE government to Brand the Nation (UAE), and investigating the Country-of-Origin Concept of the UAE. Ian is also working on a Documentary movie on the migration of the Irish during the famine period of the 1840-50s to India.
